Aglaonema Potting Mix – Moisture-Balanced Chinese Evergreen Soil
Aglaonema Potting Mix
Moisture-Balanced, Airy Mix for Healthy Roots & Colorful Foliage
Give your Aglaonema a growing environment designed around its natural preference for consistent moisture, excellent drainage, and healthy root aeration.
Aglaonema, commonly known as Chinese Evergreen, are beautiful tropical houseplants prized for their attractive foliage, colorful leaf patterns, and ability to adapt to a variety of indoor growing conditions.
From classic Silver Queen and Silver Bay varieties to colorful selections such as Siam Aurora, Pink Dalmatian, and Wishes, these popular plants make wonderful additions to homes, offices, and indoor plant collections.
Aglaonema grow best in a moisture-balanced, airy root environment that holds enough moisture for steady tropical growth while still allowing excess water to drain freely.
Our Aglaonema Mix is formulated specifically for container growing. Coco coir and peat moss provide controlled moisture retention, while fine pine bark creates organic structure and air space. Perlite and pumice improve drainage and long-lasting porosity, while vermiculite helps maintain even moisture around the root system. A small amount of worm castings contributes organic matter and gentle nutrition.
The result is a light, fertile, moisture-balanced growing medium designed to support healthy roots, strong growth, and colorful foliage without keeping the root zone continuously wet.
Why This Mix Works
Made for Aglaonema
Formulated specifically for container-grown Chinese Evergreen varieties, providing the balance of moisture retention, drainage, and root aeration these tropical houseplants prefer.
Consistent Moisture Retention
Coco coir, peat moss, and vermiculite help maintain moderate, even moisture between waterings without creating an excessively dense or waterlogged growing medium.
Excellent Drainage & Root Aeration
Fine pine bark, perlite, and pumice create an open structure that allows excess water to drain freely while maintaining essential air space around the roots.
Lightweight Structure & Gentle Nutrition
Organic ingredients provide a supportive growing environment, while worm castings contribute organic matter and gentle nutrition to encourage healthy growth and beautiful foliage.

Suggested Watering
Check the mix regularly rather than following a fixed watering schedule.
Keep the growing medium moderately moist, but never continuously saturated.
Water thoroughly when the upper portion of the mix begins to dry, allowing excess water to drain freely from the container.
Aglaonema generally prefer more consistent moisture than drought-tolerant houseplants, but their roots still require adequate oxygen.
Avoid repeatedly watering while the root zone remains excessively moist, as prolonged saturation can reduce root aeration and contribute to root problems.
During warm weather and periods of active growth, Aglaonema may require more frequent watering, particularly when grown in brighter indoor conditions.
Plants growing in lower light will usually dry more slowly and may require less frequent watering.
Reduce watering somewhat during cooler weather, lower-light conditions, or periods of slower growth.
Watering frequency will vary depending on plant size, container material, drainage, light, temperature, humidity, and seasonal conditions.
Never allow the container to remain standing in water.
Fertilizing
Aglaonema require only light to moderate feeding.
During active growth, use a balanced houseplant fertilizer at a reduced strength according to the manufacturer's directions.
Appropriate feeding can help support healthy foliage, new leaves, and steady plant development.
Avoid excessive fertilization. Aglaonema can be sensitive to fertilizer-salt buildup, which may contribute to browning or injury along the leaf margins and tips.
Because this mix contains only a small amount of worm castings, supplemental fertilizer may be useful for long-term container growth.
Chinese Evergreens do not require heavy feeding, so avoid applying more fertilizer than the plant needs.
Periodically watering thoroughly enough for excess water to drain from the container can help reduce accumulated fertilizer salts.
Reduce or discontinue feeding during periods of slower growth.
Repotting
Repot when roots have substantially filled the container, drainage has slowed, or the plant begins drying unusually quickly between waterings.
Aglaonema generally tolerate being somewhat snug in their containers and do not require frequent repotting.
Move into a container only one pot size larger at a time rather than dramatically increasing the amount of growing medium around the roots.
Oversized containers can retain unnecessary moisture around a relatively small root system, increasing the risk of root problems.
Mature Chinese Evergreens may develop dense clumps with multiple growing stems.
These established clumps can be carefully divided during repotting if desired, allowing them to grow as separate plants.
When repotting, handle the roots carefully and avoid unnecessary damage to the root system.
Keep the base of the plant at approximately the same depth it was growing previously.
Always use a container with unobstructed drainage holes.
Made for Your Houseplants
At Blooming Faith Farm, we make our growing mixes with carefully selected ingredients to create practical, plant-focused blends for home growers.
Our Aglaonema Mix is formulated specifically for container-grown Chinese Evergreens, combining consistent moisture retention, excellent drainage, lightweight organic structure, long-lasting root aeration, and gentle nutrition to support healthy roots, strong growth, and beautiful tropical foliage.
Whether you're growing a traditional Silver Queen Aglaonema, a lush Silver Bay, a colorful Siam Aurora, or a stunning Pink Dalmatian, our specialty mix provides a growing environment designed around the needs of these popular tropical houseplants.
Unlike drought-tolerant houseplants that prefer drying substantially between waterings, Aglaonema appreciate more consistent moisture. Our specialty mix helps maintain that moisture while preserving the open, airy structure their roots need.
Please note: This is a specialty soil-less potting mix made from the ingredients listed above. It is formulated for container-grown Aglaonema and Chinese Evergreen varieties and is not conventional garden soil. Plants, pots, and decorative materials shown in photos are for illustration only and are not included unless specifically stated.
For best results, always consider your Aglaonema variety, container size, drainage, light, temperature, humidity, irrigation water quality, seasonal growth, fertilization, and watering needs.

Fertilizing
Feed during active growth with a balanced houseplant fertilizer according to the manufacturer's recommended rate. Reduce feeding during periods of slower winter growth or lower light.
Repotting
Repot when roots begin filling the container, growing from the drainage holes, or when the plant begins drying out much faster than usual. Move to a pot only one size larger to avoid leaving excess wet soil around the roots. After repotting, water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain.
