Blueberry Potting Mix

Acidic, Moisture-Balanced Mix for Container-Grown Blueberries

Give your blueberry plants a growing environment designed around their natural preference for acidic soil, consistent moisture, and healthy root aeration.

Blueberries develop fine, relatively shallow roots that perform best in an acidic, organic growing medium that stays evenly moist while still allowing plenty of air around the roots.

Our Blueberry Mix is formulated specifically for container-grown blueberries. Sphagnum peat moss helps maintain moisture while naturally contributing to the acidic root environment blueberries prefer. Pine bark provides an open organic structure that allows the fine roots to breathe, while perlite and pumice add drainage and long-lasting pore space.

The result is a lightweight, moisture-balanced growing medium designed to support healthy blueberry roots without becoming dense or waterlogged.

Why This Mix Works

Made for Blueberries
Formulated specifically for container-grown blueberry plants that benefit from an acidic, moisture-balanced root environment.

Consistent Moisture Retention
Sphagnum peat moss helps hold moisture between waterings while contributing to the acidic conditions blueberries prefer.

Excellent Drainage & Root Aeration
Pine bark, perlite, and pumice create air space around the fine root system while allowing excess water to drain freely.

Lightweight Organic Structure
Pine bark creates an open framework that supports healthy root development without the dense conditions common in ordinary garden soil.

Ingredients

Sphagnum Peat Moss • Pine Bark • Perlite • Pumice

Best For

Rabbiteye Blueberry • Southern Highbush Blueberry • Northern Highbush Blueberry • Half-High Blueberry • Dwarf Blueberries • Patio Blueberries • Other Container-Grown Blueberry Cultivars

Suggested Watering

Check the mix regularly rather than following a fixed watering schedule.

Water thoroughly when the surface of the mix has begun to dry, allowing excess water to drain freely from the container.

Blueberries prefer consistently moist but never waterlogged growing conditions.

Do not allow the entire root ball to become completely dry, particularly during warm weather, flowering, and fruit development.

Container-grown blueberries may require more frequent watering during hot, sunny, or windy conditions.

Because irrigation water can gradually affect root-zone pH, growers with alkaline or mineral-heavy water may benefit from using rainwater or another lower-alkalinity water source when practical.

Never allow the container to remain standing in water.

Fertilizing

Blueberries are acid-loving plants with specialized nutrient requirements.

During active growth, feed with a fertilizer formulated for blueberries, azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias, or other acid-loving plants, following the manufacturer's recommended rate.

Avoid excessive fertilization. Blueberry roots can be sensitive to high fertilizer salt concentrations.

Maintaining an appropriately acidic root environment is especially important because excessively high pH can reduce the availability of important nutrients even when fertilizer is present.

Because bark-based growing media can temporarily immobilize some nitrogen as the bark ages and decomposes, regular appropriate feeding is important during active growth.

Repotting

Blueberries develop broad, relatively shallow root systems and eventually require substantial containers.

Repot when roots have filled the container, the plant begins drying unusually quickly after watering, or the growing medium has begun to break down.

Move into larger containers gradually and always use containers with generous, unobstructed drainage holes.

As the bark-based growing medium naturally settles and decomposes over time, additional fresh mix may occasionally be needed.

When adding fresh mix, avoid burying the plant's crown or covering the stems more deeply than their original planting level.

Made for Your Plants

At Blooming Faith Farm, we make our growing mixes with carefully selected ingredients to create practical, plant-focused blends for home growers.

Our Blueberry Mix is formulated specifically for container-grown blueberries, combining acidic sphagnum peat moss, organic pine bark, excellent drainage, and long-lasting root aeration to support healthy root development and vigorous growth.

Whether you're growing compact patio blueberries or larger blueberry bushes in outdoor containers, this specialty mix provides a growing medium designed around their unique root requirements.

Please note: This is a specialty soil-less potting mix made from the ingredients listed above. It is designed for container-grown blueberries and is not conventional garden soil. Actual root-zone pH can vary depending on irrigation water, fertilizer, container conditions, and other growing factors. Plants, pots, berries, and decorative materials shown in photos are for illustration only and are not included unless specifically stated.

For best results, consider your blueberry variety, container size, drainage, sunlight, temperature, irrigation water quality, and watering needs.

Fertilizing

Feed during active growth with a balanced houseplant fertilizer according to the manufacturer's recommended rate. Reduce feeding during periods of slower winter growth or lower light.

Repotting

Repot when roots begin filling the container, growing from the drainage holes, or when the plant begins drying out much faster than usual. Move to a pot only one size larger to avoid leaving excess wet soil around the roots. After repotting, water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain.
