Citrus Soil Mix – Well-Draining Potting Mix for Container Citrus
Citrus Soil Mix – Well-Draining Potting Mix for Container Citrus
Give your container-grown citrus a balanced growing environment with our handcrafted Citrus Soil Mix, formulated to provide moisture retention while maintaining excellent drainage around the roots.
Why This Mix Works
Citrus trees naturally grow in warm climates with well-drained soil and plenty of sunlight. While citrus can be grown successfully in containers, they generally perform best outdoors during suitable weather and may need to be moved indoors for protection from cold.
Our Citrus Mix is formulated specifically for container-grown citrus, balancing moisture retention with excellent drainage. Pine bark provides structure and air space, while coco coir helps retain moisture. Perlite, pumice, and horticultural sand improve drainage, while worm castings provide organic matter and gentle nutrition.
The result is a well-draining growing medium that helps maintain consistent moisture without keeping citrus roots waterlogged.
Ingredients
Coco Coir • Pine Bark • Perlite • Pumice • Horticultural Sand • Horticultural Charcoal • Worm Castings
Best For

- Meyer Lemon
- Calamondin
- Kumquat
- Key Lime
- Persian Lime
- Dwarf Orange
- Limequat

Suggested Watering
Check the mix before watering rather than following a fixed schedule. Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches have begun to dry, allowing excess water to drain completely.
Citrus prefer consistent moisture but should never remain waterlogged. During hot, sunny weather, container citrus may need frequent watering. When brought indoors during winter or periods of slower growth, allow the surface to partially dry before watering again.
Never leave the container sitting in standing water.

Fertilizing
Feed during active growth with a balanced houseplant fertilizer according to the manufacturer's recommended rate. Reduce feeding during periods of slower winter growth or lower light.
Repotting
Repot when roots begin filling the container, growing from the drainage holes, or when the plant begins drying out much faster than usual. Move to a pot only one size larger to avoid leaving excess wet soil around the roots. After repotting, water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain.
