Guava Tree Potting Mix

Rich, Moisture-Balanced Mix for Healthy Roots & Tropical Fruit Growth

Give your Guava Tree a growing environment designed to provide consistent moisture, excellent drainage, and plenty of air around the roots.

Guava Trees are vigorous tropical fruit trees valued for their attractive evergreen foliage, fragrant flowers, and flavorful fruit. From Pink and White Guavas to varieties such as Mexican Cream, Thai Guava, Ruby Supreme, and Red Malaysian, Guavas can grow very well in containers when their roots have the right balance of moisture and drainage.

Our Guava Tree Mix is formulated specifically for container growing. Coco coir and peat moss help maintain steady moisture between waterings, while fine pine bark provides organic structure and air space throughout the root zone. Perlite and pumice improve drainage and long-lasting porosity, while calcined clay helps maintain structure and buffer moisture and nutrients. A small amount of worm castings contributes organic matter and gentle nutrition.

The result is a fertile, airy, moisture-balanced growing medium designed to support healthy roots, vigorous growth, flowering, and fruit development without keeping the root zone continuously wet.

Why This Mix Works

Made for Guava Trees
Designed specifically for container-grown Guavas and their combination of vigorous tropical growth, regular moisture needs, and preference for good drainage.

Consistent Moisture Retention
Coco coir and peat moss help maintain moderate, even moisture between waterings without creating an excessively dense growing medium.

Excellent Drainage & Root Aeration
Fine pine bark, perlite, and pumice maintain open pore space throughout the mix so excess water can drain while oxygen remains available to the roots.

Durable Structure
Calcined clay and other porous ingredients help the growing medium maintain structure rather than quickly becoming compacted.

Gentle Organic Nutrition
Worm castings provide organic matter and a mild nutrient contribution while still allowing you to control long-term fertilization.

Suggested Watering

Check the growing medium regularly rather than watering according to a fixed calendar.

During active growth, keep the mix moderately and consistently moist without keeping it continuously saturated.

Water thoroughly when the upper portion of the mix begins to dry, allowing excess water to drain freely from the container.

Guava Trees can use considerable moisture while producing new leaves, flowers, and developing fruit. Young trees, recently repotted plants, and fruiting specimens may require closer moisture monitoring than established plants.

During hot, sunny, dry, or windy weather, container-grown Guavas may require more frequent watering.

Avoid allowing actively growing plants to remain severely dry for extended periods.

At the same time, do not repeatedly water an already-wet root zone. Healthy Guava roots need oxygen as well as moisture.

During cooler weather or periods of slower growth, reduce watering frequency while preventing the root system from becoming excessively dry.

Watering needs will vary with tree size, container size and material, sunlight, temperature, humidity, season, and drainage.

Never allow the container to remain standing in water.

Fertilizing

Guava Trees benefit from regular nutrition during active growth.

Use a balanced fertilizer or one formulated for tropical fruit trees according to the manufacturer's directions.

A complete fertilizer that includes micronutrients can be especially useful for container-grown fruit trees.

Regular moderate feeding can support healthy foliage, strong shoots, flowering, and fruit development.

Because container-grown trees have access to a limited volume of growing medium, their long-term nutrient needs cannot be supplied by the potting mix alone.

This mix contains a modest amount of worm castings, but supplemental fertilizer will still be needed for long-term growth and fruit production.

Avoid excessive applications and unnecessary fertilizer-salt buildup.

Reduce feeding during cooler weather or periods when growth has slowed substantially.

Repotting

Repot when roots have substantially filled the container, drainage has slowed, or the tree begins drying much more quickly between waterings.

Guava Trees can develop vigorous root systems when provided with adequate warmth, sunlight, moisture, and nutrition.

Move into a container approximately one size larger at a time rather than surrounding a relatively small root system with a very large volume of growing medium.

As the tree matures, gradually increase container size to provide room for continued root development.

Larger Guava Trees can also develop substantial canopies, so a sturdy container can help provide stability.

When repotting, handle the roots carefully and keep the root crown at approximately the same level it was growing previously.

Avoid burying the trunk or root crown excessively deeply.

Always use a container with generous, unobstructed drainage holes.

Fertilizing

Feed during active growth with a balanced houseplant fertilizer according to the manufacturer's recommended rate. Reduce feeding during periods of slower winter growth or lower light.

Repotting

Repot when roots begin filling the container, growing from the drainage holes, or when the plant begins drying out much faster than usual. Move to a pot only one size larger to avoid leaving excess wet soil around the roots. After repotting, water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain.
