ZZ Plants are native to eastern and southern tropical Africa, where they grow in dry grassland and forest environments. Their underground rhizomes store water, allowing the plant to tolerate periods of dryness.

Our ZZ Plant Mix is formulated with those natural adaptations in mind while accounting for indoor container growing. Pine bark, perlite, and pumice create a loose, well-draining structure, while coco coir and worm castings provide moderate moisture retention and organic matter. Horticultural charcoal helps maintain an open, well-structured mix.

The result is a balanced growing medium that drains readily and allows the roots to dry between waterings without becoming excessively dry.

Suggested Watering

Allow the mix to dry well before watering again. When dry, water thoroughly until excess water drains from the pot, then allow the pot to drain completely.

Do not water on a fixed schedule. Plants in brighter, warmer conditions may need water more often, while plants in lower light or cooler conditions may need less.

During winter or periods of slower growth, reduce watering and allow additional drying between waterings.
